Who Could Deny These Butterflies? Chapter Two.What day is it and in what month? This clock never seemed so alive. You and Me - Lifehouse
"Do you really have to go?" I asked.
"You know it's something I don't want to do, but you know Jack." Alex said.
"Okay." I said, avoiding his eyes.
"Don't worry, I wouldn't do anything that you wouldn't want me to do if you were sitting right next to me."
I couldn't help but smile.
"I'm going to be lonely tonight." I said, sadly.
"We can always break the rules." He said, grinning.
"No, Alex. I want this to be traditional. You can't be near me for the day before the wedding!"
"Fine. Are you staying at your mom's tonight?"
"No, I wasn't really planning on it..."
"I don't like you in the big house all alone."
"Are you worried my other boyfriend is going to come visit me?" I pressed my lips together to keep from smiling.
"Your staying at your mom's house tomorrow, okay?"
"Why?" I whined.
"There were a couple of break-in's down the street, and I don't want you here alone, okay?"
"Your concern is so sweet." I said.
He smiled.
A car horn beeped from outside, making us both jump.
"That's Jack." Alex said.
I stepped off of the bed and wrapped my arms around him. I looked into his big, brown eyes, almost getting lost. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
I nodded.
He kissed my forehead and left.
"What to do? What to do?" I asked myself.
I decided to pack my bag to go to my parent's house for tonight. The neighborhood we lived in was very quiet, and peaceful. When Alex said there had been break-in's, that surprised me. I would rather be safe than sorry.
After everything that I could possibly need was packed in a duffle, I locked up and drove to my parents. They lived about fifteen minutes away.
Summer was coming to a close. The weather was already starting to get chillier. The leaves on the trees were changing to bright reds and oranges. It was crisp outside today, but when the sun was shining the weather felt perfect. I hoped it would stay like this for tomorrow.
Tomorrow. Wow. I would be a married woman. That was something I couldn't seen to wrap my head around. I thought of Alex. He was not the type that would marry so early in his life, but I was the lucky girl that happened to steal his heart. I may never give it back.
"Hi, mom!" I said as she opened the door.
"Well, isn't this a surprise." She said, pulling me into a hug.
"Yeah, Alex didn't want me staying at home since there was a few break-in's over the past couple weeks and he didn't want me staying alone." I explained.
"Oh, I see. So I finally get to see my daughter without her boyfriend for once?" She said.
My mom wasn't exactly I was happy that I was marrying so early out of college. I told her time and time again that I was ready to marry him at age sixteen. That only made her more upset.
"It's not really an issue. I'm twenty-two, more than an adult. I can definitely make my own decisions."
"Honey, this is one of the biggest decisions of your life." My dad interceded in the conversation.
"I love Alex with all of my heart. Of course I want to marry him. I am tomorrow, and it's really late to be telling this to me."
"Okay. Whatever you say. I'm not paying for anything that has to do with divorce because you weren't ready," I sighed heavily, "Anyway, what do you want to eat?"
"Whatever you make." I said, still thinking about our conversation.
I looked a lot like my mom. We both had blonde hair, mine was much longer than her, almost to the bottom of my ribs. Hers was a short bob cut. Our skin looked golden from being in the sun all of the summer. I had my dad's eyes. They were sea green with specks of gold. I wasn't really all that tall, just average sized.
"Heidi Crawford....Heidi Gaskarth...." I said to myself.
"Is there any way that you can keep your last name?" My dad asked, joking.
"I'm afraid not."
"I don't want to loose my little girl." My dad said, hugging me.
"It's okay. I'll be here a lot. Just wait until you have grand kids!"
"You're not thinking of kids are you?"
"Well, I am. I haven't told Alex yet to hear what he thinks about the topic."
"I don't see him with a child."
"I'll be the one with her!"
"You don't get it-" He was cut off by my phone ringing.
"Hello?"
"Hi, it's Alex. I'm just wanted to make sure you were at your parents house."
"Yes, I am."
"Great. Bye."
"Bye, Alex."
"See what I mean? He can handle it!"
"I don't know, Heidi." He said. "I'm not a little kid anymore."
"I understand that."
"Oh, do you?" I said, sourly.
"I don't want to get in a fight, Heidi. Just go back to whatever you were doing before and relax. Tomorrow is your wedding day."
His last sentence rang in my ears for the rest of the night.
